Notes of a Case of Trismus Nascentium

چکیده
fant suffering from general convulsions. I found it to be a case of trismus nascentium, occurring suddenly on the fifth day after birth. The child was of normal size, and apparently well nourished. The parents could assign no cause for the accession of the disease. It is to be observed, however, that the house was not well situated (being low down on the side of a hill), that there were ten children in the house, and that the weather was bleak and changeable. The cord had separated, and the cicatrix was neither inflamed nor abnormal in any respect. lhe convulsive attacks were very strong, violent jerking of the whole body, and forcible extension of the thumbs, fingers, and toes. The jaw was fixed, and there was frothing at the mouth, with " puffing" breathing, alternating with violent screaming. The tongue was very livid. The child could be made to swallow with difficulty, the attempt increasing the convulsions. It could not take the breast.
